Ellen Nordgren - The long road...

Painting has been a long road for me - one that started with the devastating loss of my sister in 2007. After years of painting, I am still discovering what paint can say. The journey continues to teach me that the most rewarding paths are rarely straight - they bend, shift, and open into unexpected places.
My abstract work explores the balance between structure and spontaneity, and the tension between order and looseness. Using primarily oil and cold wax medium, I build surfaces through layers of color, mark-making, and geometric forms. I am drawn to strong shapes and warm color relationships.
Each painting becomes part of the journey - an exploration of how color, texture and space can convey emotion and energy. Some works begin with intention and others with instinct, but all evolve through a process of looking, responding and allowing the painting to reveal its direction.
Through color, shape and texture, I paint my stories and weave my experiences. Whether traumatic, angry, peaceful or joyful, they are an interpretation of my many emotions around love, loss, life and healing.
